The Power of Charcoal: The Benefits + Wellness Hacks
Heyyy babes! Welcome welcome. Very excited to share this blog with you today because 1. Self care and eating well are my favorite things to do and 2. I found an amazing wellness hack and products that let me do both #winning
So today I’m obviously talking about my beloved activated charcoal powder and some really cool wellness hacks you can start using in your self care routine. But first, let me explain what activated charcoal is and how it works.
Charcoal: Activated charcoal is a natural treatment used to trap toxins and chemicals in the body, allowing them to be flushed out so the body doesn’t reabsorb them. For natural healing, it’s important to select activated charcoal made from coconut shells or other natural sources, not the charcoal used for barbecues (that kind is toxic to the body.)
You may be familiar with activated charcoal already because it is known to be used in drug overdoses to quickly get rid of the drugs ingested. However, what may not be known already is that it can also help with hangovers and is helpful with bloating and gas. Overall, it is greatly detoxing to the body. Because of that, it is best to use in small amounts and not everyday. The charcoal prevents more toxins from entering the body but also can prevent nutrients from being absorbed in the body if prolonged.
You can ingest activated charcoal but you can also use it topically. I have found that there are many more benefits from using it topically and you can use it more frequent compared to ingesting it.
Now that you got the idea of what we’re working with, let’s get into the benefits!
Bye bye acne
Alright so quick interruption to update you on my life real quick. I recently became a Beautycounter consultant because I wanted to share with all you beautiful babes a company that I stand behind and use myself. It is a natural skincare and makeup company with a badass mission to change the world one product at a time. I’ll do a whole different post on this but I just wanted to inform you of this exciting life move and hope you take a step in safer beauty care with me. <3
Anyways back to the first benefit…
It is AMAZING for dealing with troublesome acne that never seems to go away. Why? because it literally pulls that icky gunk causing the acne from your pores, leaving you wonderfully fresh faced.
I like using the Beautycounter charcoal mask 1-2 times a week for a deep cleaning and their charcoal bar for everyday use. Seriously guys, if you are going to get anything from Beautycounter, please try this soap bar. It’s going to last me forever and it works. I struggle with oily skin that can cause acne if I’m not careful and since using this, my skin has been so much more clear. #bless
2. Let me see them pearly whites!
Did you know that you can use it as toothpaste?? All you have to do is mix about a tsp of powder with a tbsp of coconut oil and start brushing! It can help remove those stubborn coffee stains and leave you with a shining smile. ;) Although it can get a lil bit messy (speaking from experience lol) so it’s best to find a natural toothpaste with charcoal already added. A toothpaste brand I like is the brand Schmidts. You can find it on Thrivemarket (my favorite online health store for way cheaper prices) and use my coupon to receive an additional 25% off your first order if you wanna give it a try!
3. Helps out when we might have went a lil cray cray on the weekend, no judgement here ;)
Sometimes we go a lil hard with a certain beverage on the weekend and wake up feeling crappy AF. Instead of hating your life for the next 24hours, you can try ingesting the powder in the form of a nourishing smoothie. Not only will you have the the charcoal removing some unwanted toxins, but you will also be replacing the toxins with nutrient dense foods that can help you get over that hangover real quick.
Also, as I mentioned earlier, activated charcoal is great for helping out with cleansing the body and helping out with that unwanted bloating and gas. You might just be in need of a short cleanse and need an extra oomph to get you there.
Start off small with maybe 1/2 tsp in water (or a smoothie so you don’t taste it) and see how you react. I wouldn’t recommend doing for longer than a week but as always, listen to your body and adjust as needed.
That’s it for now! Hopefully you can try a couple of these wellness hacks out for yourself and give some of the products a try, I promise you’ll love them.
Remember go easy, listen to your body, and do what feels right for you.
